MACD Quarterly Meeting and Tours, August 20th, 2010
On Friday, August 20th, the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Districts held its quarterly meeting and farm tour in Worcester County. While you may not have an an opportunity to join us on that day, we offer below a chance to attend the meeting and farm tour virtually, and to experience nearly first-hand the excitement of a perfect August day in Worcester County.

The day kicked off at the NRCS field office in Holden with a brief business meeting. A copy of the agenda and talking points are accessible as an Adobe Acrobat (pdf) document by clicking here.
After the business meeting, members carpooled to Jordan Diary Farms in Rutland. District Conservationist Walter Albarran and dairy farmer Randy Jordan presented a comprehensive tour.
From Jordan Dairy Farms, the tour traveled to Princeton to visit Mass Audubon’s Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary where we learned about habitat, preservation of wildlife species, tagging migratory monarch butterflies and sheep from our host Cindy Dunn.
The last stop on the MACD quarterly tour was the Sholan Farms in Leominster where we not only learned the ins and outs of New England orchards from the hayless hayride, but had the opportunity to pick fresh, ripe apples to munch on the long trip home. Our informative and tasty trip to Sholan Farms was hosted by President Joanne DiNardo.
