1. Jordan Dairy Farms, Rutland

Jordan Dairy Farms, Rutland

After the business meeting, members carpooled to Jordan Diary Farms in Rutland.  District Conservationist Walter Albarran and dairy farmer Randy Jordan presented a comprehensive tour.

Located in Rutland, Massachusetts, Wayne and Randy Jordan are second and third generation farmers of Jordan Dairy Farms.  This operation is one of the largest dairy farms in Worcester County with 300 milking cows and about 385 head of livestock.  They have worked with NRCS for several years and are very good stewarts of the land.  The Environmental Quality Incentives Program has helped construct and implement conservation practices, such as waste storage facilities, roof runoff management, vegetated treatment areas, and other management practices in order to improve water quality.  The Jordans are now in the process of implementing a new methane digester that will improve air quality and produce green energy.
